Time stood still

Time stood still…

for there, neath the overcast skies

his face hidden neath a well-worn hat,

nuanced movements and slidings against strings,

transformed into heavenly music.

I dropped my coins.

His face, once hidden,

appeared.

A look of acknowledgement,

but eyes betraying surprise.

In but that one glance,

I got a glimpse of the bittersweet.

My heart was pained,

my face was smiling,

my hands were clapping.

And then I had to go away.

There are moments,

and there are moments that take your breath away…

He was playing because that is his fate, his joy, his reason for living…He was talking to God through his work, and nothing else mattered.
(Paulo Coelho, Like the Flowing River)
