Why should they listen

September 25, 2011 § 2 Comments

I was just having a frightening thought today. The thought– why should my students listen to me teach?

First, some reasons a person would sit down to listen to another

– I need to know the knowledge she is going to impart

– I am interested to know

– I like and respect her

The first reason is not yet drilled into their heads. And you know what, maybe that’s a good thing. Whoever says you need to know textbook knowledge to get along with your life?

The second is umm..absent.

The third seems only present when I play games with them and flash them smiles for now. I haven’t been here long enough for entire classes to like me, though I’m happy to report that I’ve unwittingly won the heart of a certain notorious student (not in a bad unmoral kind of way mind you). His declaration of love is what is keeping me going ๐Ÿ˜€
